Customer Rating: Summary: Wish it WERE as good as the reviews... Comment: I was shocked when I received this book in the mail last year. [...] I returned it immediately. (Outskirts Press is a self-publisher, as I've since found out.)
The content? It ranged from the common sense (take showers, etc) to the nonsensical (star on a soap opera, then become famous, then he'll regret being mean to you). It is extremely disorganized and written in size 16 font. I have read a lot of women's magazines and thought it would be something at least equal to that standard of quality. I was wrong - the book is one long list of random suggestions, none of which are written with the clarity of the average women's publication.
If the authors want to write a successful book, I am sure it is well within their power with decent editing and clearer presentation. At the very least, they know that this is a subject of much interest, and they have an audience ready to buy their hopefully higher quality follow-up book.
I give this book two, not one, stars. Why, given its few merits? I think even considering this book is a sign that one might want to work on her self-confidence, which is often the origin of a lot of problems women have attracting a man. I encourage YOU to write 339 of your own tips, and then to write your own book for the rest of us. In that sense, having arrived at this book isn't a total loss because now you have learned something about yourself. I just wouldn't buy it, unless it were considerably revised.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing Comment: Based on previous reviews I had high expectations for this book. It does have some standard, basic/good advice. Much of what is in here however is the same old stuff repeated in several different ways throughout: Such as - having a positive attitude, good grooming, enjoying your life by yourself - not being needy. [...] Poorly written at times.
I would skip it.
Customer Rating: Summary: It will change your life! Comment: I've never been confident in myself!Until I bought this book! The only way to make people love you is by loving yourself! This book will teach you how to change the things you don't like about you so that you can start truly appreciating yourself. And believe me, it shows!I have recommended that book to every one of my friends. Money well spent.
Customer Rating: Summary: Needs some editing Comment: A lot of the suggestions in this book are common sense (like good hygiene and wearing clothes that fit). Nothing too new here that you can't find in other books, but it was nice that it was presented as a list vs. long paragraphs of nothing just to have one sentence of value.
[...]. It made me have to re-read quite a bit in order to understand what they were saying. There were even a couple of items that were repeated or rephrased as a new point even though it was already covered earlier.
It wasn't worth purchasing, but I'd recommend borrowing it from a friend or skimming through it in a bookstore because overall, there are some good points and the self-affirmation section is better than most other "how to..." books.
Customer Rating: Summary: A total sham...... Comment: I bought this book because the title sounded interesting. I just turned 35 and feel that I am a confident, sexy, professional woman, but newly single, I thought why not check it out to see what it had to offer. What a mistake! Ignoring all of the obvious typos, I found this book to be overly simplistic in its advice. In addition, there are many just plain bad suggestions that the authors recommend, such as going to a tanning booth or laying out in the sun to get a tan. I hope any woman who reads this has at least a little sense to use good judgement before partaking in some of these suggestions. From now on, I will rely on what has worked for me in the past everytime, which is my own self-confidence rather than looking to a [...] piece of [...] written for a teenager.
