If you’ve ever tried to tell your six-year-old how babies are made or your fourteen-year-old how condoms work, you know that grappling with telling your kids about sex can be a sweat-drenched exercise. But it doesn’t have to be. Everything You Never Wanted Your Kids to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid They’d Ask) is a one-of-a-kind survival guide that will help you stay sane through every stage of your child’s sexual development. After interviewing scores of parents and analyzing decades of scientific research, two nationally respected, Harvard-trained physicians share their expertise in this brilliantly insightful, practical, and hilarious book that has fast become the leading resource for parents of toddlers to teens. This indispensable guide covers all the bases, including:
• What to expect at each stage of your child’s development and how you can influence it from birth onward • What to tell your kids at every age about sex and how to get the conversation going • What to do when your five-year-old turns up naked with the girl next door, your toddler is rubbing on her teddy bear, or your six-year-old walks in on you having sex • How to avoid unnecessary clashes with your middle-schooler while managing privacy, crushes, and what to wear • How to encourage your teenager to use contraception without encouraging her to have sex, and how to help her choose the method that’s best for her

Customer Rating: Summary: Fascinating, fun and fact-filled Comment: I don't have kids, and I'm not even sure I want them in the future. I bought this book after seeing it mentioned in an advice column and reading lots of glowing reviews. All I can do it echo what others have said - this book is great.
It covers all the stages of a child's development, explaining what to expect and why from kids of all ages. Many likely situations are described and the best way to handle them is explained. The authors are casual yet credible, informative yet conversational. You can tell they really understand the thoughts and feelings of the parents as well as the children. They also include stories from real parents they have encountered, which are both entertaining and relatable.
Even though I'm not a parent, I found this book to be an easy and enjoyable read. I was constantly fascinated by the situations discussed and their explanations, and I will recommend it to all the parents I know.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very satisfied Comment: This book came highly recommended by other parents so I decided to order. The book is in great shape and it is very informative. Lot's of laughs and stories that hit home with me and my children. I'm glad I got the book!
Customer Rating: Summary: Everything You Never Wanted Your Kids to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid They'd Ask): The Secrets to Surviving Your Child's Sexu Comment: I must have been confused about what this book actually was when I bought it. I thought it was a book for my child to read. It is more like a manual for me. It is more like a "What to expect when you are expecting" type book for your child's teenage years. It is mostly just common sense information.
Customer Rating: Summary: Against the current Comment: After seeing how may people have given this book 4 and 5 stars, I feel I'm going against the current. However, I do have to point out that if you are a Christian, and want to find an appropriate way to talk and teach your kids about sexuality, this is NOT your book.
I bought this book because I was brought up by parents who were very uncomfortable talking about sex, and I didn't want to repeat the mistakes they made.
However, may of the ideas this book professes to be "normal sexual behavior", and therefore should not be "interfered" with, I don't agree with. There has to be a middle ground between not talking to your kids about sex, and allowing them to "play doctor" with their friends because telling them not to it may give them a distorted sense of sexuality. Some of the talks that this book recommends you have with your young kids are frankly inappropriate.
I find that the way this book recommends you handle sexuality with your kids is the reason why so many teenagers are having sex, and at a very young age. It didn't help me to figure out how to explain to my kids that what they are feeling is normal, but that they also need to wait before acting on it. Where is the book that helps us Christians to teach our kids how to handle our sexuality? This book certainly isn't it.
Customer Rating: Summary: What a relief! Comment: This book is an outstanding, balanced, funny and abundantly helpful tool for parents wanting to facilitate healthy, open conversations about sex and sexuality with their kids. As a single mother to a seven and a half year old son, I am so relieved to have the tools to start and hopefully continue a dialogue with my son as he approaches puberty and grows into a young adult. Whatever your values or beliefs, the book will help you more effectively discuss and explore them with your toddler, your child, your adolescent and/or young adult.
