Summary: Great Book if you're starting to homeschool...
Comment: I read a lot of the reviews for this book. All of the negative reviews focus on the feeling of being misled and not realizing that the author is a Christian. She is. She focuses on Christian curriculum--BUT she is not as narrowly focused as many Christian curriculum books are. I appreciated reading her ideas about different subjects.

If you are not a Christian, Linda Dobson's books about homeschooling cover a much wider gamut of homeschooling approaches and curriculum choices. I would suggest looking her up, if this book is not for you. Linda Dobson, in particular, focuses a lot of unschooling methods and curriculum. Her books aren't for me, but they may be the right choice for you.

Homeschooling is so individual! I love this book and I recommend it to every friend who is thinking about homeschooling, because Cathy Duffy addresses your philosophy of education in the first section of this book. None of the reviews I read mentioned this. But, it is so important! It is the first thing someone has to put together when becoming a certified teacher and I think it is just as wise for every homeschooling parent--it will make curriculum choices so much easier!

Along with this book, I would recommend Help for the Harried Homeschooler, again a Christian book, for anyone considering homeschooling!

Comment: This book was just what I needed to think through the process of developing an educational philosophy and then choosing curriculum that fits with one's philosophy and family needs. While I don't have my own children whom I am educating, I am in the position of helping other families do just this, and was so thankful to be directed to this resource.
