Customer Rating: Summary: Burned, Ellen Hopkins Comment: About a year ago, one of my best friends encouraged me to read this book. I finally decided to give it a try and after the first page i was hooked. Ellen Hopkins is an amazing writer. She has a very unique way of capturing the reader. All of her books are written in beautiful verse that is both of teens and adults. You can see her talent in her work. I have read all four of her books, Crank, Burned, Impulse and Glass. But I do have to say, Burned is my favorite. I believe that the reason I like Burned so much, is because of the story line. In every family there is controversy, but in Patton's, the main character, it is much different. Firstly, she is raised in a very religious family where there is abuse and so much negativity brought apond her. But the story fades to love, and this one special boy, Ethan. Throughout the book she asks questions about God, a women's role, sex, boys and love- but mostly boys. Through out the book, she gets into some trouble and her punishment is to be sent to live with an aunt she never knew she had. Either it will be a living hell, or a start to a better life. There is a little to both, but Ellen Hopkins does a great job with the details. I would give this book a 10 out of 10. All of her books are outstanding!! I bought the book, and after I read it, my first instinct was to pass it on to everyone. I haven't seen my book for a while, it is just getting passed down the list of my friends.
Customer Rating: Summary: AMAZINGLY GOOD, Comment: i'll be honest and say that in my opinion the book starts out pretty slow, & pretty bland, but once you get into the 100 pages you get more hooked.
i loved the outline of this story so much, and it mostly relates to teenagers.
like it seems like Pattyn's life is going fairly decent with her new love, and then BAM, at the ending she realized it was too good to be true. & she loses her, only love; her love; her everything.
when reading the last couple of chapters i was utterly in tears. this is one of the first books that has ever made me cry, it is so deep. & you definitely should read this to see what i mean.
